Filter Your Faucet Water And Save The Price of Bottled
You've no doubt heard the news by now that bottled water is adding to the environmental problems in the world. The amount of plastic water bottles that go into landfill sites each day is surprising and demonstrates that the vast majority are not being recycled.
The energy used to make plastic bottles, move them to their final destination, and the fact that most of the water is simply filtered faucet water are all reasons why you should purchase a water filter for your personal use. Producing your own "bottled" water will save you dollars and help protect the planet.
One of the most popular brands is Brita replacement water filter cartridges. They come in various models and sizes, can be hooked directly to your sink, or come as part of a water holding tank setup that you keep in your refrigerator. I personally use the brita riviera water pitcher, because I like having chilled water available 24 hours a day as this pitcher sits nicely in the refrigerator. However, all types works well.
Water filters will remove impurities and chlorine and make your water taste equally as good as most bottled brands ,making it a great choice for you and your family.
Along with making great tasting drinks available to you and your family 24/7, using a filter can save you a lot of cash. On average, tap water costs pennies on the dollar compared to buying bottled.
Faucet water might also be safer than some bottled water, as there are not as many laws in place covering bottled water regulation as there are for tap water laid down by city municipalities. Therefore, it could be argued, that filtering your own water in the house is technically better for you than bottled anyway, and definitely better from an environmental perspective.
If you buy a refillable water bottle you will also have access to filtered water when travelling or at work - places where you typically use bottled water. You can buy reusable bottles most places you shop and they come in a variety of sizes and materials, from stainless steel to plastic and glass. Purchasing one for everyone in your family will enable them to have their own filtered water with them wherever they go.
Investing in water filters for your home is a sensible and "green" choice to make for your whole family and the planet in general. You get the same or better quality of water, save some hard earned dollars, and help improve the environment.
What are the blacks specs in my Brita filter pitcher?
They're not actually in the pictcher but in the filter part - the part you put the water in. It comes from the part that the water filters through. It kind of freaks me out. We rinsed out the filter part by "sloshing" the water around to clean out the filter but more came out. We've only had it about a month!
Make sure you soak your Brita filter in water for about 10 minutes and then rinse it off in clean water before you install it.
If there are still some carbon pieces floating in your water dump the first pitcher of water and try again.
Either way, these little specs pose no threat but they can be annoying.
